About Me

My name is Terence Luk and I am a senior IT consultant with more than five years of experience working on projects in diverse environments for industries that include financial services, electric utility, airlines, retail, health, transportation, municipalities, legal, hospitality, and corporate enterprises.  Having depth and breadth of technical skills combined with natural leadership and communication abilities has allowed me to excel in projects involving complex heterogeneous environments and meeting tight deadlines.  With demonstrated expertise in architecture, implementation, migration and management of Microsoft platforms, VMware virtualization and storage technologies, I have been able to accurately assess issues and foresee potential problems ensuring that projects are thoroughly scoped and technically sound, leading to smoother, high reliability implementations.

While composing this “About Me” section and trying hard to figure out how I could write all the technologies that I continue to work with in a paragraph, I’ve come to realize that there really is no way to write it as elegant as I had hoped so as with many other blogs I’ve come across, I will simply use a list.

Having to be fortunate enough to have worked with and understand a large collection of technologies has given me many opportunities to take part in designing solutions for clients rather than simply performing an upgrade or migration of a product. With that being said, I don’t think I can ever grow tired of the latter as the satisfaction of a successful migration feels just as rewarding as it was for my first project. Call me crazy but I actually like the stressful nights during a cutover when a migration is halted because of a phantom error or a running into a product’s design flaw and knowing that the go-live date is 2 days ahead. I’m enjoying every moment of it when I wake up and go to work every day.

I remember someone telling me that if you ever want to “kill your hobby”, simply “make it a job”. While I’m sure that this may be applicable to many people out there, I’m glad this never applied to me.
